Dehumidification Performance

High humidity makes the home a hotbed for excess moisture and mold growth. To prevent potential problems, it is essential to control indoor humidity and moisture levels. The best way to do this is by using a dehumidifier.

The main purpose of a dehumidifier is to remove excess moisture in the air. Standard home dehumidifiers have a moisture removal rate that ranges from 20 to 70 pints per day. These pint ratings are determined through tests set by the Department of Energy. As of 2019, dehumidifiers are tested at 65°F and 60% humidity.

Hisense operates in temperatures between 38F and 90F (3.2C and 32.2C). All units have an Energy Star certification. This means that the products meet the EPA’s energy efficiency requirements for dehumidifiers. Simply put, Hisense dehumidifiers can help cut down on your power consumption and save more money in the long run.

Easy-to-use Digital Controls

The Hisense LED digital controls allow you to adjust the settings according to your needs.

Digital Humidistat

The digital display on the center shows the current humidity and the preferred humidity while setting. Press the “–” or “+” buttons to select the desired humidity level from 30% to 80%. after five seconds of flashing the set humidity, the digital display shows the actual room humidity from 30% to 90%. When your desired humidity is reached, the compressor will stop running. Once the room humidity rises above the humidity setting, the unit will start dehumidifying again.

Fan Speeds

Hisense dehumidifiers allow you to choose from High, Low, and Auto fan speeds. Press the Fan button to select Low for minimal noise, High for maximum moisture removal, and Auto for normal speed.

Timer

You can program the dehumidifier to turn on or off automatically after 30 minutes to 24 hours. To set the Timer to turn on the unit, press the button while the unit is off. To set the Timer to turn off the unit, press the button while the unit is on. When the timer is set, the indicator light will flash and the display will show the remaining time before the unit turns on or off.

Operation Modes

Hisense operates in three modes: Auto Dry, Continuous, and Manual Set. The indicator light will flash when you select a mode.

In Auto Dry mode, the fan speed is set automatically and the humidity is set to 50%.

In Continuous mode, the unit will operate continuously. The fan speed can be adjusted but not the desired humidity. Humidity can go past 30%, theoretically down to 0% until the bucket is full or the timer is up.

If you select Manual Set mode, the unit will operate to your desired humidity level and fan speed.

Drainage Options

Gravity Drainage

If you don’t have the time to manually empty the bucket, most dehumidifiers give you an option for continuous drainage. Simply attach a regular garden hose (not included with the unit) to the drain outlet. With Hisense dehumidifiers, the outlet is located on the side of the unit. Unlike models from other brands, you will need to remove the bucket to secure the drain hose connector. Make sure to place the unit higher than the drain and the hose is positioned downward to let gravity work.

Built-in Pump

For added convenience, the Hisense DH-7019KP1WG comes with a built-in condensate pump. This allows for continuous drainage to a location farther away and up to a certain distance above the unit. You can have the hose run up a sink, out into a window or another suitable location. This functionality is common in 50-pint or higher capacity dehumidifiers. If your dehumidifier does not come with a built-in pump, consider purchasing an external pump. It works in the same way and is generally more durable than a built-in pump.

Additional Features

Hisense is equipped with all the standard features found in home dehumidifiers.

Auto Defrost

Hisense works in low temperatures down to 38°F, a 3 degree difference from the standard 41F for refrigerant-based dehumidifiers. At 38ºF, frost may start to form inside the machine. The auto defrost function automatically shuts off the unit when frost is detected on the coils. The compressor will stop while the fan continues running to melt the ice.

Auto Restart

In the event of a power outage or interruption, your dehumidifier settings will be saved. After power is restored, the unit will automatically restart operation with your last settings.

Air Filter

Most dehumidifiers come with an air filter to help remove dust, lint, and other impurities from the air. Hisense has a removable and washable filter located behind the intake grille on the back of the unit. Remove the grille to access the filter.

Check the filter at least every two weeks. You’ll see a Clean Filter button and indicator light on the control panel. Wash the filter with warm water and mild detergent, or vacuum if necessary. After the filter is completely dry, reinstall it along with the intake grille. Press the Clean Filter button to reset the monitor.

What Customers Say About Hisense Dehumidifiers

If the customer reviews are any indication, Hisense dehumidifiers work effectively to reduce humidity levels in rooms within 1,000 square feet area.

Some report that they get an E9 error code after less than a year of using their unit. Another common complaint about Hisense dehumidifiers is the high noise levels. Although this may not be a big deal if it’s located far away from the living space.

One thing to keep in mind is that most customers only purchase one dehumidifier at a time. This means reviews are not the most reliable basis for comparison to other units, as they would be with other products where consumers typically buy more than one . brand and can compare them more easily. For your reference, see more customer reviews for Hisense here.

Like most other brands, the built-in pump on Hisense tends to have a short life. If you rely on the drain pump for continuous drainage, it may be a better idea to find an external condensate pump. Alternatively, choose from top-rated dehumidifiers like the Frigidaire FFAD5033W1, the hOmeLabs HME020031N, or the Vremi VRM010184N, to name a few. In terms of build and design, these models are also of better quality than Hisense.

Overall, Hisense dehumidifiers perform well enough in average room conditions. I personally would not recommend them as the best dehumidifiers currently available. If you want to get the most out of your investment, consider looking for a high performance dehumidifier like the ones mentioned above.
